Seller Packs – HIPs – Property Information Questionnaire – UK housing market 2009

Posted by: Geoff Davis In: Energy|Government Schemes|Housing

The Labour government invented these back in 1997, they took ages to become law in 2008, and now most people ignore the.

77% of people pay no attention to HIPs information. So they are just a nuisance for the seller.

From April 2009, sellers must fill up a 30 question Property Information Questionnaire. This covers all from flood risk to property tax.  In fact, they could even get sued if the information is not accurate, by a person who is not even buying the house.

HIPs are “an expensive waste of time” says Peter Bolton King of NAEA (estate agents).

If the Conservatives get in they will probably be scrapped. Perhaps the Energy Assessment will continue but not the general information, since this is usually double checked by solicitors anyway under due diligence.
